A Dearth of Quotables

I realized the other day that, while still a member of the human race, I am living a rather singular existence. You see I'm bunking with Mom & Dad for the summer - who each have their own Daily To Do Lists so we are sometimes like ships that pass in the night. I waitress to bring in a bit of spending money - but you really don't have in depth conversations while ladling clam chowder. At church it's a quick in and out for the most part and conversations are short and sweet. The rest of the time I am studying, asleep on the beach (usually trying to recover from studying and/or waitressing), sewing in the basement or reading e-mails.

What I am calling The Singularity Realization came to me as I was vegging in front to the TV when the young hero (out to save the world) needed something to throw in the path of encrouching evil. She said, "I need something benign!" Then she looked at her 60 something mentor and said, "You Artie!" Artie panickly responded, "Me! I haven't been benign since 1956!" I laughed out loud and thought it would make a great quote entry - AND I HADN'T ENCOUNTERED A QUOTE I LIKED IN OVER A MONTH! A month!!??? I realized I hadn't been doing much on the interaction front recently.

Unfortunately out of context the quote just didn't work so I was back to square one. Luckily, the next day another tv show brought the Jimmy Buffet quote to my attention. Thank goodness that at least the boob-tube is still bringing me social interaction of sorts, culture and quotes ;-)

  1. This is why we need to live near each other instead of this other end of the country crap, or even the other side of the ocean. Summer gives us a quotable at least once a day, and Marnie isn't too far behind. You'd have an entire board of JUST Summer and Marnie quotes. Hmm. If I get my act together, maybe I'll start one for you.
