The library only allows you to have 40 books checked out at once and I am at my limit. In order to take out more books I have to give some up... Which requires me to go back through and make sure I've got all the notes out of the books I give back. In the process I came across a pencil note I had made in the margin of "What is Narrative Criticism?" by Mark Allen Powell. I had written - 'blog quote!' So here it is:
"To some, this conception may seem novel. But recipients are absolutely essential to any concept of revelation; without them, nothing can properly be said to have been revealed. According to the old adage, a tree that falls in a forest does not make a sound unless someone is there to hear it. Similarly, the Bible cannot be said to reveal God's Word unless someone receives this revelation. There is something almost blasphemous about calling a book that lies unopened on a coffee table, 'the Word of God.' According to Scirpture itself, God's Word is an active, dynamic force that never returns void but accomplishes that for which it is sent (Isaiah 55:11). The Word of God cleanses, heals, creates, judges, and saves, but it does not sit on coffee tables." pg 98.
Here's to promising I won't treat my scriptures to long tenures on the coffee table!

I agree with that quote wholeheartedly!
ReplyDeleteAlso, that's why I loved the NYU Bobst library -- as far as I know they had no limit to the number of books you could take out, so I had as many as 100 out while working on my MA thesis!
among other reasons - this is why I turn my scriptures into art - - - or acquire "scripture rendered as art" created by others. Add music and then add good people and daily visits with Mother Nature = surrounded by scripture 24/7! Oh, yeah - I do read the Book(s) every day too :-D
