Saturday, on ta lark, I called Cathy and we headed out on an adventure. Anstruther is a small, seemingly sleeping fishing village about 20 mins from St Andrews. It does boast a long history of going to sea and some world famous fish and chips but we decided to head to the Scottish Fisheries Museum. BOY, what a surprise it turned out to be!!!

A whitewashed building on a random corner in the harbor. The entrance is a bit confusing and you start in the gift shop/tea room. Usually 'museums' save the distracting stuff to the end. A little older lady gave us our tickets and map then she pointed across the small open courtyard to a random door and said #1 on the map was through that door. It took us another hour and a half at least to reach the final room! In between we saw all kinds of fishing history - ancient and modern and ZULU (yes, the African tribe) fishing. At one point we came around a corner and were stopped dead in our tracks by a full size fishing boat - INSIDE the building with four solid walls surrounding it!
For all the unassuming exterior walls The Scottish Fishing Museum is, beyond a doubt, one of the most surprising and well worth the trips museums I think I've ever been too! Oh, and then Cathy and I found a fantastic hot chocolate place in the sleepy town of Pittenweem to finish out our adventure!
