At the close of the weekend

For months I've been driving back and forth to Dundee on this little (but busy) country road. Off to the right on a hill is this very dramatic church. This past Sunday, because it was Spring Break, I didn't have any other passengers in the car so I pulled off the main road and onto a dirt track that lead to a filigreed wrought iron gate...

Turns out the church isn't really a church as much as a memorial chapel built by a wealthy newspaper publisher in 1895-1897 in memory of his late wife.

Regular services aren't held here. The grave stones sort of draped over the sloping hill like a well worn blanket.

The late Victorian details are out in force all over the chapel.

Inside the chapel is made of limestone that has, over the years, been stained with water. The inlaid floor was touching. Under the podium it said "I am the resurrection and the light."

There there was this cheeky engraving on the back side of one of the grave markers. I think I would have liked him!
