Post GRO High

I turned in my GRO on the 19th. By Saturday I was beginning to feel the celebratory itch to sew. Kathleen came to my rescue with a medicinal trip to Rejects Department story in Kirkcaldy (pron kir-coddy). Yes, the name is actually Rejects - I have no idea why because it's all first run stuff and it was the nearest store with a descent supply of fabric! And boy did I find fabric by the yard!!! There was upholstery, curtain, clothing and quilting fabric. I kept running back and forth between the departments (which were at completely different ends of the store). Kathleen stopped trying to keep up with me and decided to shop in the wall paper department. In the end I settled on two drapery fabrics for jackets. A cream canvas with big red flowers (as Spring coat that can't be missed) and a rich mocha brown brocade with art deco flowers (for a special occasion or two). As of today (Friday, April 1st) I've got the canvas jacket done except for buttons. The weather report is calling for rain for the weekend so I might make some headway on the second jacket as well.

A week later I drove back down to Kirkcaldy with Cathy and this time I took my camera. Here's what the south of Fife looks like now and then....

In a town called Upper Largo, across a field, was this abandoned manor house just crying for some attention. Don't know if it's for sale but the view was amazing (see the next shot...)

The land slopes down to the Firth of Forth. The houses in the bottom of the picture are 'Lower Largo.' It's hard to see but on the far side of the Firth to the right of the middle you can see a mountain range (in darker blue) slanting up to the right and then leveling off. That is Edinburgh.
This precious little house, turns out, was the house the widow of the manor house lived in after her husband died - servant quarters, stables and all. Cathy and I chatted with the woman who lived there. She was coming back from a walk with her little scottie dog all dressed in tweeds and wellies. It was a classic encounter!

And this was HER VIEW! She said that no matter what the weather the view is fascinating and the sun has a special draw that would make even the most hurried person pause for moment or three. I am so jealous!
