Road Trip to Preston

This weekend I finally REALLY got out of the St. Andrews bubble! I rented a car (Dolly just couldn't handle the trip) and drove west and south with my friend Yvonne to the nearest LDS Temple in Preston, England. The trip is 4-5 hours each way but we were blessed with one of the nicest and warmest weekends on record here in the UK! We didn't stop on the way so no pictures of the Lake District or the rolling hills of northern England but here are some pictures of the temple.
Because the temple district is so big and the drive takes such a long time for many members there are accommodations on the temple grounds for patrons. Yvonne and I had a room for two nights (Friday and Saturday). This walkway connects the 'hotel' with the temple grounds. Even for a simple path it is planned with a dramatic flare to draw your eye toward the temple.

My first real view of the temple - 8am on Saturday morning. I was pretty early but I just couldn't wait to get inside and enjoy the day.

The sun was bright and shining. It lit up the stained glass and made it look like a fire was burning inside the temple spire - made the engraving 'holiness to the Lord' take on a whole new meaning!

Standing in the entryway looking straight up through the skylight to the Angel Moroni on top of the spire.

The sun, the clouds, the temple, the grounds - all beautiful. And then I got to take pictures of Libby and her family...
