Weather Update:

This arrived in my inbox at 1pm:

ADVERSE WEATHER ANNOUNCEMENT

Dear Colleagues

Due to the severe disruption to travel being caused by the adverse weather conditions, the University is recommending that staff who live outside St Andrews and north of the Tay and who wish to travel home, do so in daylight. These staff are therefore permitted to leave with immediate effect, with no effect on annual leave entitlement. The same applies to staff whose children are affected by the Fife Council decision to close schools early today and who require supervision.

Please be aware however that the Tay Bridge is presently closed to all traffic and is forecast to remain closed until at least 6 p.m. Please also be aware that there is significant disruption to major routes and that alternative routes to Dundee via Perth may be affected by fallen trees.

Current advice from Scottish Police forces is that the east coast is likely to experience exceptional and dangerous weather up until 7 p.m. today and that anyone traveling during that time “could be putting themselves at considerable risk.”

We recognize that some staff will have family and childcare commitments which will influence their decision to travel. The safety and well-being of our staff is our overriding priority however and we would strongly advise you to follow the expert advice from the Police and travel authorities.

The University will remain open and therefore it is essential that local staff remain at work to ensure a skeleton service is provided.

Further updates may be issued if new information or guidance from public authorities becomes available. We will do our best to keep you informed.

If you have any queries, please contact Human Resources on ext 3096.
