Day at the Fairmont

Today I ventured out AND studied.

I'm tired of being the only one in my office. It is just too quiet. I've taken to propping open the office door just to hear other students going up and down the stairs. It conducive to studying. So today I took matters into my own hands.

I went in to the office at my regular time (approx 8:30am) and worked on e-mails, upcoming conference business and general stuff. I left at 11am, notes, computer and lunch all packed in my duffle bag and headed out to the Fairmont Hotel.

The Fairmont is outside of town surrounded by two golf courses on a bluff overlooking the bay and back toward town. They have a HUGE three story atrium and a great bar. I settled into a comfy sofa in the atrium and started organizing notes for my next chapter - when I discovered I had left about 20 pages of notes at home. Darn! However, the sofa was just right, so was my lunch and I realized I had the rest of the document on my computer. So, after lunch, around 1pm I moved upstairs to the bar, turned on the monster and kept right on working.

In the bar - a group of 5 were doing some kind of event planning. Two older ladies sounded like they were meeting for their regular weekly lunch. Two guys near me were discussing promotional stuff for some company called TGIGolf. There there were members of hotel staff who came and went. Several couples who came in for lunch or drinks. It was just right for the studying I wanted to get done. I finished at 3:30pm about the time the bar completely emptied out. I feel like I accomplished so much!

Great things about the Fairmont: 'elevator background music' is not bad. no internet so I couldn't procrastinate. had to stay awake and work - can't take a nap and possibly snore when you are not a guest at the hotel! They (the hotel) have a dog! Her name is Smudge. She is a 4 year old lab with the sweetest personality so when I needed a stretch I went out and patted her. She works the 9-5 shift at the front door.
