Translating is slow going and taxing on so many levels but occasionally the Lord throws me a bone that makes it all worthwhile - like to day.
Translating the conversation Hagar has with a messenger of the Lord (Gen 16:7-13) and discovered that when the messenger tells her her fate (vv 11, 12) it is a non-prose form. In other words the prophecy/blessing is set aside from the prose in a kind of poetic style. Of all the conversations in the book of Genesis that I am looking at only one other with similar formatting is when Rebekah is told by God about the sons she is carrying. None of the men get this kind of style - not even Abraham and his covenant!!! Yeah - once again women stand out!!!
The sun breaks through and I have another thread to study, research, follow and thrill over! How lucky am I??!!! ;-)

No, no, no, Beth! You're losing focus! Remember that the biblical texts can and should ONLY be interpreted and read as patriarchal and oppressive towards women. To do otherwise is to be narrowminded and myopic! ;)
