In California if it wasn't going to get above 70 I wore a turtle neck. Here it's 2 degrees Celsius (34 Fahrenheit) and I walk out of the house in a suit coat (left over from an old boyfriend) and a pashmina! YES - according to BBC Radio 2 this is unusually cold for this time of year - but then they give the traffic and weather report for the entire country in less than 30 seconds so I wonder just how accurate they are. The cleaning ladies at the office, however, did comment yesterday am that it was so cold they had to scrape ice off their cars before coming to work so I guess the BBC isn't too far off.
Come to think about it I did actually layer things pretty well yesterday - undershirt, long sleeved t-shirt, lightweight but decorative wool sweater topped off with a cotton scarf wrapped around my neck twice. THEN the wool suit coat (double breasted and buttoned) followed by the extremely large wool pashmina which practically went around me twice. In CA I would have had on a cotton turtle neck and a sweatshirt and then shivered through the rest of the day.
Hhhhmmm - maybe those long dormant New England genes are remembering how the ancestors survived all those post-colonial winters and are actually firing up my survival instincts. hhhhmmmmmm. Yeah, I'll go with that explanation!
