Yesterday evening - after 5pm when all the stores close here in St Andrews - I drove all the way into Dundee to go to the nearest McDonald's. I wasn't craving a cheeseburger, fries or a shake.
No, I wanted one of their really BIG plastic cups.
For some reason the regular size cups and glasses found in my community kitchen just weren't doing it for me. I just wanted a HUGE glass of water, or lemonade or soooooommmmmeeething and only a large plastic cup from McD's would do.
Unfortunately, Britons do not believe in ice - which means their really big cups are actually half the size of our US really big cups because they don't use ice, requiring them to actually fill the not so really big cups completely with soda. This, intern, makes their really big cups much smaller than the US cups so they don't loose money in the process AND (horror of horrors) because their really big cups are much smaller than the US cups they are all paper.
Bummer...
On the drive home - yes I did have a cheeseburger, fries and a soda in a smaller big paper cup - I realized it wasn't just the large plastic cup I wanted but the ice cubes, soda and dinner on the back porch with Mom & Dad.
I guess the 30 min drive back to town does have psycho-therapeutic qualities.
