Changed planes in Dublin at the crack of dawn - literally and was in Edinburgh and then St. Andrews by 10:30am. Day one is a blur - also literally - as I did everything in my power to stay awake. To that end I did every bit of registration paperwork allowed by incoming students. I unpacked EVERYTHING from my two overweight suitcases (Thank you Jonathan at Aer Lingus for not charging me full price to get them on board!). I even got to the only grocery store in town to stock up on a bit of food for the morning. Note to self - do NOT shop at Tescos after 11am when every student in town seems to be wandering the aisles (especially the alcohol aisle) in search of calories.
Today, day two, was a bit more relaxed. I went to the St. Mary's Divinity School offices. Got the key for my office in Roundel (it's a seperate bldg where all the PhD students do their work), met with my professor and got a tour of the divinity school library - very cool! Built by King James (as in the bible) for his mother Queen Mary. And then there was a class in the afternoon regarding teaching and tutoring here at St. Andrews. I was able to stay awake for about 1/2 of it but had to come home and take a nap.
Went for a walk around dinner time and thought I'd share a few views....
