St. Andrews Day - Week

Scotland knows how to party! We may take an extra day to celebrate Thanksgiving and kill ourselves shopping on Black Friday but here... Nov 30th is St. Andrews Day - basically a kind a 4th of July feeling pervades the country. While the actual day is next Tuesday things have been hoping since Wednesday.

The town has its Christmas lights up. Portions of South street are blocked off as concert venues for groups like The Red Hot Chilli PIPERS and a huge ceilidh dance (pronounced kay-lee). There is an ice skating rink set up in the St. Mary's quad and the shops are staying open late all week.

Friday Night I circumvented the hot pipers because I had tickets to a posh concert - The Lulo Reinhardt Project at the Byre Theatre. He's a German gypsy/latin/jazz guitar player. The band consisted of a piano, violin, double base, percussion and Lulo on guitar. Very cool and definitely out of the ordinary.

Let's see, what else is going on today? A Winter BBQ and Scottish Real Ale and Malt Whisky tasting. An art festival exhibition. The Museum is open, Taste of Scotland Festival Food Fair with live cooking demos, music and a farmers market. Then I have a ticket to the Edinburgh String Quartet at Holy Trinity Church - that is if the weather cooperates.

For all the events going on click here you'll have a great time!
